https://islamikainside.uinkhas.ac.id/index.php/islamikainside/article/view/298

This is a study of speech act analysis as part of pragmatic studies contained in the interpretation of the Qur'an by Ibn Kathir. In the Qur'an, Surah Al-Rum, verse 41, contains a reference to the seeming corruption on earth. The purpose of this study is to analyse the speech acts of Ibn Kathir's interpretation of natural damage, the factors that cause natural damage on earth, and the implications of speech acts (pragmatic) in Qur'anic studies. The results showed that the illocution contained in the interpretation of Ibn Kathir is assertive and directive. From the classification of speech acts, it is found that the factors that can cause natural damage are human sin and the loss of one's belief in God's supernatural power. The Pragmatic Implications of Ibn Kathir's interpretation are: affirmation of logical pragmatics, rejection of dualism, context and variability, interaction and negotiation, and implications for Comparative Ethics.
Devi Suci Windariyah

https://islamikainside.uinkhas.ac.id/index.php/islamikainside/article/view/305

The study of the Qur’an in the West has developed into a robust academic discipline, marked by significant methodological transformations in interpreting the sacred text. Diverging from the classical Islamic tradition of tafsir, Western approaches frequently incorporate historical-critical methods, hermeneutics, and literary analysis. This article aims to examine the methodological evolution of Qur’anic exegesis in the West, highlighting the contributions of prominent contemporary Muslim scholars, including Fazlur Rahman’s Double Movement, Abdullah Saeed’s Contextual Approach, and Amina Wadud’s Feminist Hermeneutics. Employing a qualitative methodology rooted in library research, this study utilizes content analysis to elucidate the principles underpinning these innovative approaches. The findings indicate that these methodologies offer a more contextualized and modernly relevant reading of the Qur’an, addressing contemporary challenges while integrating historical analysis, a hierarchy of values, and principles of gender justice. These approaches facilitate the development of inclusive and adaptive interpretations that remain grounded in the fundamental values of Islam. However, they also encounter critiques, particularly concerning the application of hermeneutics to the interpretation of sacred texts. This article underscores the pivotal role of contemporary Muslim intellectuals in the West in reshaping the methodology of Qur’anic interpretation, forging a critical bridge between Islamic tradition and global academic discourse.
Siti KhodijahMoh. https://islamikainside.uinkhas.ac.id/index.php/islamikainside/article/view/302

God is a transcendent reality that has long been the central object of metaphysical and theological inquiry. In the Islamic intellectual tradition, particularly within the discipline of kalam, the discourse on God has produced diverse interpretations regarding His essence, attributes, and existence. In the contemporary era of global multiculturalismcharacterized by plural traditions, worldviews, and intercultural encounters the question of how kalam thought about God remains relevant and requires renewed interpretation. The purpose of this study is to reinterpret the concept of God in Islamic kalam thought and to explore its relevance for fostering tolerance, intercultural dialogue, and religious coexistence in the context of global multiculturalism. To achieve this, the research employs a qualitative method with a theoretical-hermeneutical approach, focusing on textual analysis and interpretative reflection on classical and modern kalam discourses. The findings indicate that, according to kalam thought, God is One, possesses both essence (dhat) and attributes (sifat), exists necessarily by Himself, and His existence is independent of human acknowledgment. The plurality of views concerning God within Islamic theology and among world religions should not be regarded as a weakness, but rather as an opportunity to nurture tolerance and mutual respect. In this sense, the reinterpretation of God through kalam thought contributes not only to strengthening rational faith but also to building bridges of dialogue in today’s pluralistic and multicultural society.
Jauharotina AlfadhilahEuis FaridahHasan Akbar Fathullah

https://islamikainside.uinkhas.ac.id/index.php/islamikainside/article/view/329

The interpretations of milk al-yamīn proposed by Muhammad Shaḥrūr and Abdul Aziz have been characterized as liberal by various Muslim scholarly communities. This characterization stems from their apparent neglect of established interpretative methodologies and the disregard for the prevailing moral frameworks that have historically governed such exegeses. Consequently, their readings are perceived to align with the objectives of secular feminist discourse. In response, Abdul Mustaqim offers a critical evaluation of their work, identifying several key deficiencies, including ontological, methodological, ideological, and epistemological shortcomings. In light of these critiques, a more rigorous reassessment of Shaḥrūr and Abdul Aziz’s interpretations is warranted, particularly through the lens of maqāṣid al-sharīʿah (the objectives of Islamic law). Such an analysis aims to delineate the theoretical boundaries that these scholars may have transgressed. Employing a qualitative research design, this study examines Shaḥrūr’s Al-Kitāb wa Al-Qur’an alongside Abdul Aziz’s dissertation, utilizing theoretical and critical analytical techniques. The qualitative critical analysis facilitates a comprehensive understanding of the appropriate interpretative framework for milk al-yamīn.
Muhammad Miqdad Al Ghifari SyattaAhmad BaehakiIda Fitri Anggarini

https://islamikainside.uinkhas.ac.id/index.php/islamikainside/article/view/296

The development of social media also develops new actors and practices in socio-cultural phenomena, including the reception of the Qur’an. This study aims to dig deeper into the aesthetic reception of the Ayaatcontest Instagram account through the perspective of Karl Mannheim's Sociology of Knowledge, who formulates three meanings of human behavior, namely objective, expressive and documentary meanings. By using the netnographic research method, this study draws the conclusion that the meaning of the reception of the Qur’an in the Ayaatcontest account is formed by the organizers and participants. The objective meaning of the organizers is that the social space of the UAE country which is in the Middle East has a passion for preserving the art of Islamic calligraphy or khat, the expressive meaning in the form of selected verses of the Qur'an are verses related to tauhid and social verses, as well as prizes worth 12,000 UAE dirhams, and the documentary meaning as an ongoing effort to maintain the Arabian Peninsula as a 'home' for khat art. While the objective meaning of the participant’s is the process of learning khat which has been carried out for a long time so that they are used to participating in khat competitions. The expressive meaning is the various styles of khat used, starting from Naskhi, Ta'liq, Tsuluts, Diwani, Kufi, and so on, and the meaning of the participant's documentary is the preservation of khat art, as well as existence and self-branding in the world of khat writing, both in social media and in the social sphere of society.
Nurun Najmatul UlyaAhmad Yasir AmrullohAhmad Danish Hakimi bin Shufiady
